We started out as a team back in 1990 working side by side operating a hotel. I was a general manager while Joy managed the daily operation - a 24/7 business. It was a good business and we were very busy. As time went on the business began controlling our lives and we had no time for family and friends and no vacation time. All work and no play, we had to get out. After 17 years we decided to retire from the hotel business and moved to another part of Newfoundland and Labrador.
Both of us moved into new careers. Joy began working in the retail trade while I pursued work in the construction industry. We enjoyed our new career change but we were financially stricken from enjoying the lifestyle that we sought. Also, our retirement plans were limited due to the fact that we had little retirement savings and only old-age pension would not cut it. When will we be able to retire - Never?
